OREM, Utah – Utah Valley University men's soccer will play at Grand Canyon University on Saturday, Feb. 6, in the first of 10 WAC games that will make up the 2021 spring schedule. Each WAC team will play once per week and a total five home and five away contests during the shortened campaign that was previously slated for the fall.
"I couldn't be more excited for our players with a spring schedule now in place. It's been a long time coming, we understand it's likely to be a bumpy road in front of us, but we can't wait to get back on the pitch and do what we love to do – play soccer," UVU head coach
Greg Maas said. "This team is not just talented, they have an exceptional work ethic and commitment to one another, and we're determined to secure another WAC championship for UVU and our 12th
Wolverines."
After a bye on Feb. 13, the Wolverines are slated to open their home schedule on Feb. 20 against Incarnate Word. The remainder of the home schedule includes The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 6, before a renewed rivalry of former junior college foes on March 13 when Dixie State comes to Orem. The Trailblazers are coached by Maas' former assistant at UVU, Jonny Broadhead. UVU will also host San José State on March 31 and close out the regular season on April 9 against California Baptist.
In addition to the opener at GCU, the Wolverines will play road contests at Air Force (Feb. 27), UNLV (March 20), Seattle U (March 26) and Houston Baptist (April 5).
The WAC Tournament will be hosted by UNLV and feature the top six teams, one less than originally planned. The tournament begins on Tuesday, April 13 with the semifinal matches on April 15 and the tournament championship on Saturday, April 17.
Utah Valley returns 19 players from last year's team that went 12-6-3 and finished second in the WAC with a 8-3-0 record and were just penalty kicks shy of winning the WAC Tournament Championship. The Wolverines welcome 10 new players to this year's squad, one returned LDS missionary, two transfers and seven freshmen. This year's recruiting class was ranked No. 28 in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com in its final recruiting rankings.
