Trey Woodbury scored a career-high 24 points and
Jamison Overton added 19 to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team in an 82-60 loss at BYU in a UCCU Crosstown Clash matchup on Saturday night at the Marriott Center.

With the loss, UVU falls to 1-1 on the season, while BYU improves to 3-0. The Wolverines now return home to host Westminster on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at the UCCU Center.

After taking a 9-8 lead through the first seven minutes of the game, JJ Overton threw down a dunk and Woodbury followed with a three to spark a 9-2 UVU run to take an 18-10 lead with 13:20 to play in the first half. BYU then countered with three makes from long range over the next five minutes as part of a 15-2 run to take a 25-20 advantage with 5:24 remaining. The Cougars then outscored UVU, 13-4, over the final five minutes of the period to take a 38-24 lead into the break.

UVU and BYU played evenly through the first six minutes of the second half as the Cougars held on to their 14-point lead, 52-38, with 14 minutes to play. BYU extended its lead to 20 points, 68-48, with 7:32 remaining, but UVU rallied back with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 10 points, 68-58, with 4:44 to go. BYU outscored the Wolverines 14-2 over the final five minutes to secure the win.

Woodbury scored his 24 points on a 10 of 17 clip from the field, including a 3 of 5 mark from long range. He also pulled down five rebounds with three assists and three steals. Overton connected on 6 of 13 shots from the field and knocked down 9 of 12 free throws. Overton also recorded eight rebounds and two assists.

Fardaws Aimaq pulled down seven rebounds to go along with three points.
Asa McCord scored six points with three rebounds.

Utah Valley shot 37 percent from the field, while BYU connected on 53 percent of its shots. The Wolverines shot 36 percent from three compared to BYU's 44 percent mark. BYU just edged out UVU on the boards, 34-32

Utah Valley now prepares for a matchup with Westminster on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at the UCCU Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
