ABILENE, Texas – Utah Valley University baseball dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Abilene Christian, 10-1 and 10-3, on Saturday afternoon at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Texas.

The Wildcats improve to 3-0 on the young season with the twin bill sweep, while UVU drops to 0-3. The Wolverines will look to salvage a game of the opening series on Sunday.

GAME ONE
ACU used a four-run fourth inning to break away from UVU in game one of the Saturday doubleheader. The Wildcats used a two RBI triple by Cameron Comer and two batters later Hunter Gieser would add a two-run single to open the game up at 6-0.Â

Abilene Christian found a way to score first to start the opener on Saturday, as the Wildcats pushed across a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Tommy Cruz to take a 1-0 lead.

ACU would make it 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning, as catcher Mitchell Dickson would come through with an RBI single to score Cruz. The Wildcats would add their four runs in the fourth and two more in the bottom of sixth inning when Ryne Randle would hit out a two-run opposite field home run to make it 9-0 Wildcats.

The Wolverines would get their lone run of the contest in the seventh inning.
Skyler Davis started the frame with a leadoff single. Following a single from
Kade Poulsen that advanced Davis to third,
Mitch Moralez would provide a sacrifice fly to bring home Davis for lone run of the game for UVU.Â

The Wolverines were led offensively by
Dalton Hill, who went 2-for-3 with a double. The senior Davis also had a strong performance by going 2-for-4 in game one.Â

Austin Reusch (1-0) took the win for ACU after allowing just three hits and no runs over 5.0 innings of action. Junior transfer
Bobby Voortmeyer (0-1) took the loss for the Wolverines. Tyler Morgan was credited with his first save on the year for ACU after going the final 4.0 innings and allowing just one run.

GAME TWO
The ACU offense used two big innings in the second game of Saturdays doubleheader to lift the Wildcats to a 10-3 victory over UVU. The Wildcats used a four-run fourth inning to break away from the Wolverines which featured a three-run home run from Joseph Craig.Â

The Wildcats had a three-run first inning to get the game started that including a bases loaded hit batter, and an RBI single from Craig and a sacrifice fly from Alexi Cazarin to make it 3-0 ACU. Cazarin would later add to the Wildcats lead with a fourth inning RBI single to bring home Craig and make it 4-0 ACU.Â

Utah Valley would get an offensive spark, as redshirt sophomore
Jeff Arens would lead off the sixth with a double to right center field.
Drew Sims would later drive him home with an RBI single to left to get UVU on the board.Â

In the seventh inning, UVU produced back-to-back singles from
Mick Madsen and
Garrett Broussard to put a couple of runners on. The Wolverines would take an advantage of a wild pitch that would allow Madsen to score to make it 8-2.
Andrew Hacker would later bring home Broussard on an RBI groundout to make it an 8-3 deficit.Â

In the bottom of the eighth inning, ACU would add a couple of insurance runs to extend its lead 10-3 on a Gieser two-run double.Â

UVU was able to come away with nine hits in the night cap. The Wolverines were led by Arens, who went 2-3 in his UVU season debut with a double, while Broussard also added two hits on the contest for the Wolverines.

Nate Hawkins (1-0) was credited with the win for ACU after allowing just one run on five hits over 5.2 innings, while UVU's
Romeo Carrillo (0-1) was saddled with the loss.

ON DECK FOR UVU
UVU and ACU will conclude the opening series with the final game of the four-game series on Sunday with a Noon MT/1:00 p.m. CT first pitch. Utah Valley will then head to the Pacific Northwest and take on the University of Portland in a four-game series starting Thursday (Feb. 20) in Hillsboro, Oregon.Â
