OREM, Utah — With just two games in the books so far this season, Utah Valley University begins a busy four-week stretch leading up to the WAC Tournament on Friday at UNLV. Kick is set for 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MT from Johann Memorial Field.
"The hours, weeks, and months this team has dedicated to one another has been inspiring for me and the entire staff," UVU head coach
Greg Maas said. "The fact that we're finally able to be back on the pitch together and competing is motivating enough. That said, we know UNLV is always an exciting match, and we look forward to another epic battle on Friday night in Las Vegas."
UVU and UNLV has been the most evenly-matched of rivalries since Utah Valley's addition of men's soccer in 2014. The teams have split eight matches all-time, at 4-4-0 each, with UNLV winning two of three in Las Vegas. The Wolverines won the most recent contest, on Halloween in 2019, 3-1 in Orem.
The Wolverines are 1-1-0 after a win in the season opener at Air Force before a loss at home on March 5 to UT Rio Grande Valley. The Vaqueros scored three first-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory. UVU got a late goal from
Caleb Wight off of a corner kick to avoid the shutout, but lost for just the first time in program history in a home opener.
UVU will host Dixie State on Monday afternoon before traveling to preseason favorite Seattle U next Friday, March 26.
UNLV is 1-2-2 following a 3-1 loss at UT Rio Grande Valley last weekend. The Rebels are 1-0-1 at home, with a scoreless draw against Air Force and a 1-0 win over Houston Baptist.
