Brown and Maas named to CoSIDA Academic All-America team

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University men's soccer seniors Zach Maas and Mark Brown were named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Men's Soccer team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Monday.

Maas was named to the first team while Brown was named to the third team and are two of the 33 male Division I men's soccer players to be recognized.

Maas is also one of six male student-athletes at the Division I level to receive the recognition multiple times. He was on the third team in 2019 and becomes UVU's first student-athlete to receive the esteemed honor more than once during his career.

Brown is a finance major, with a minor in philosophy, and boasts a 3.95 cumulative GPA while Maas is an exercise science/pre-med major, with a minor in chemistry, and has a 3.83 cumulative GPA.

In June, Maas was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® 8 Men's Soccer Team for the third time in his career while Brown received the honor for the second time. Both players were also named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region second team in 2019.

Brown joins Maas, former UVU soccer player Paul Hoffmeister (2016 second team), men's basketball player Holton Hunsaker (2014 second team) and baseball player Billy Burgess (2012 third team) as Utah Valley student-athletes to be named CoSIDA Academic All-America® during the school's NCAA Division I era.
