OREM—Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay has announced that UCLA goalkeeper Idalia Serrano has signed with UVU and will transfer and play for the Wolverines this fall.
"I am extremely excited to announce that I have officially committed to Utah Valley University," said Serrano. "With great consideration and help from my family, coaches and teammates, I have decided that this is the best decision for me moving forward to develop and prepare both for my national team and my professional career. GO Wolverines!!"
Serrano, a goalkeeper from Mendota, Calif., spent the last four seasons at UCLA as the backup keeper for the Bruins. She was called up to the El Salvador National Team for training camps in June, September, and November of 2021. Serrano earned her first cap and start for El Salvador against Hondorus on Nov. 19, 2021. She also started for the national team in a 6-0 win over Santa Tecla FC on Sept. 20, 2021.
"We are excited to add Idalia to our program," said Lemay. "She has been in one of the top environments in the country and will bring experience and maturity to our goalkeeping unit this fall. She has great feet and distribution; she is a verbal leader and exudes confidence. She likes to build from the back and positively ignite the attack. She has international caps at the full team level for El Salvador and aspires to help her country play in the World Cup. We will push her to help her realize her goals to continue to play internationally and professionally."
Searrano attended Mendota High School. She played club soccer for Sacramento United and Santa Clara Sporting. She will join Utah Valley this fall and has two years of eligibility remaining.
