Williams and Carvalho named to All-WAC Teams

DENVER — Utah Valley University's Josie Williams was named first-team All-WAC for the second straight season while Maria Carvalho was named to the second team, the league announced on Monday. The All-WAC teams are decided in a vote by the league's 13 coaches, who cannot vote for their own players.
 
Williams leads the WAC and ranks fourth in the country with 12.3 rebounds per game and is second in the conference with an average of 17.3 points per contest. She also has 22 double-doubles, which is tied for fourth nationally and is also new the single-season school record. Her 343 rebounds are second in the single-season school record book while her 124 offensive rebounds is a program high for a season. Williams has twice been named WAC Player of the Week this season. 
 
Carvalho is making her third appearance on the All-WAC Teams after earning first-team honors is 2020-21 and second team in 2019-20. She's averaging a career high 13.5 points per game along with 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists. She was also named WAC Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game the first week of the season. Both Williams and Carvalho surpassed the 1,000-point mark in their careers this season as well, becoming the ninth and tenth players, respectively, to reach the mark for UVU.
 
California Baptist's Caitlyn Harper was named the WAC Player of the Year, with last year's winner, Ane Olaeta of CBU, was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Stephen F. Austin Coach Mark Kellogg, who led his team to a WAC title in its first season in the conference, was named Coach of the Year.
