ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida—
Drake Allen scored a game-high 16 points and
Caleb Stone-Carrawell added 15 to lead Utah Valley in a 74-61 loss to Cornell in the Jacksonville Classic Bay Bracket championship game on Monday at Flagler Gymnasium.
Utah Valley falls to 3-2 overall on the season while Cornell improves to 5-1 with the win. The Wolverines now return to the UCCU Center on Friday to take on Western Colorado at 6 p.m.
Utah Valley led 9-8 just six minutes into the game, but a Cornell bucket at the 12:48 mark of the first have gave the Big Red a 10-9 lead it would not give up throughout the remainder of the game. Utah Valley got within five points, 43-38, with 13:42 to play, but a 13-2 Cornell run gave the Big Red an 18-point, 58-40 lead with 10:19 to go. The Wolverines could not get the Cornell lead back to single digits the rest of the way as the Big Red secured the 74-61 win.
Allen led the Wolverines with a game-high 16 points, knocking down 6 of 12 shots from the field and a 4 of 7 mark from the free throw line. He also had two assists and a pair of steals.
Stone-Carrawell hit 6 of 16 shots from the floor, including three shots from long range for his 15 points. Stone-Carrawell also pulled down five rebounds with one assist and a block.
Jaden McClanahan and
K'mani Doughty each had seven points, while
Trevin Dorius and Trevan Leonhard finished with six points apiece. Dorius led the Wolverines with six rebounds, while Stone-Carrawell and McClanahan each had five boards.
Utah Valley shot 39.1 percent (25-64) from the field with a 15.4 percent (4-26) mark from three-point range. Cornell shot 45.0 percent (27-60) from the floor, including a 31.8 percent (7-22) clip from beyond the arc. Cornell outrebounded the Wolverines 46-33.
Utah Valley now travels back to Orem to host Western Colorado on Friday at the UCCU Center. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and over the air waves on ESPN 960 AM radio.
