SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador—Utah Valley senior goalkeeper
Idalia Serrano has been invited to the El Salvador National Team camp that takes place Feb. 13-21 at the Salvadoran Federation of Futbol Headquarters in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Â
Serrano, who has Salvadoran heritage, was one of four goalkeepers invited by the national team to train this week at the team's national headquarters in San Salvador.Â
Â
"It is very exciting for Idalia to be called into another Full Team National Camp," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "She has been training hard, she is fit and well prepared to represent herself and UVU. We are proud of her and wish her the best of luck. She will be back in 10 days ready for our first spring contest at BYU."
Â
Serrano, from Mendota, California, played in 14 games for the Wolverines last season, helping the team to a WAC regular season title and a first-ever at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. Serrano finished the season with a 6-3-3 record which included three shutouts. She tallied 33 saves with a .688 save percentage. Serrano recorded a 1.27 goals against average.Â
Â
The El Salvadoran National Team coaching staff will be evaluating Serrano, who has been on their radar over the past few years. Serrano is scheduled to play a friendly on Wednesday, Feb. 15 against Alianza, a professional team from San Salvador.
