DAVIS, Calif. – Utah Valley fell in the series finale to UC Davis 20-4. The Aggies used a nine-run first inning to take control of the game.
Garrett Broussard and
Weston Peninger were both three-for-four in the game.
The Wolverines were held scoreless until the sixth inning, when they hit two home runs in the inning. Mills hit a lead-off homer to right for his first of the year. A couple of hitters later, Peninger reached on a base hit before
Garrett Broussard hit a two-run jack to left field to make it 13-3.
In the eighth inning, Utah Valley looked to rally and loaded the bases on singles from
Brandon Luna, Peninger, and Broussard.
Lucas Piper drew a bases-loaded walk to score Luna to make it 17-4 before
Daniel Dickinson hit into a double play.
Alejandro Huezo (1-0) picked up the win, and
Luke McCollough (0-1) was credited with the loss.
Drew Woody went 1.0 inning in relief without allowing a hit.
The Wolverines will start a four-game weekend series on Feb. 24 against UC Riverside, with a 7:30 p.m. MT first pitch. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Feb. 25 starting at 1:00 p.m. MT before the series finale on Feb. 26 at 2:00 p.m. MT. The home opener is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. MT on Feb. 28 against BYU.
