HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Utah Valley softball dropped the first two games of a three-game series to the Sam Houston Bearkats, falling in game one 13-3 before being blanked 4-0 in the night cap.

Jaeden Barajas extended her hitting streak to five games with a pair of 1-for-3 games. Megan Gibbs went 2-for-2 in the series opener. 

In game one, the Bearkats scored in all four innings they batted, including a six-spot in the second and a four-spot in the fourth. 

Katie Zuniga was able to work out of a jam in the bottom of the first in game two, picking up her first of eight strikeouts, a season-high for any Utah Valley pitcher. Regan Dunn was masterful in the circle for Sam Houston, holding the Wolverines to just two hits on the night.

The Bearkats were able to tag Zuniga for a run in the second and two runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead midway through the ballgame. 

The Wolverines threatened in the fourth, putting a pair of runners on with one out, but could not find the clutch hit they needed. Sam Houston added a fourth run in the fifth on a solo home run. 

Utah Valley will look to salvage a game in the series tomorrow in the series finale. The Wolverines and Bearkats will face off at 11 a.m. MDT. The game will be broadcast on WAC International and live stats will be available at UVUStats.com.
