OREM, Utah – Utah Valley picked up an 8-6 win on Monday night at UCCU Ballpark over in-state foe Utah Tech.
Daniel Dickinson had a career night going 4-for-4, scoring five runs, and just coming up a triple short of the cycle in the game for UVU (20-16). Utah Tech (9-27) could not hold the lead after a four-run sixth inning by the Wolverines.
Utah Valley earned its 20
th win of the series. It marks the most wins since the 2016 season, when they won 37 games en route to a WAC Tournament title and spot in the Baton Rouge Regional.
"Tonight, was a great team win. There were a lot of contributors, and we made pitches and got some big hits when we needed them," said UVU head coach
Eddie Smith.
The Wolverines scored their first two runs in similar fashions. Dickinson singled in the first and reached on a bunt single in the third. He stole second base in both innings and scored on singles from
Matthew Schwarz to put UVU up 2-1.

Colton Kennedy pitched the first inning, giving up one hit and one run. He gave way to
Chase Hennessey, who followed, tossing 2.2 innings of three-hit ball.
The Trailblazers used the long ball to regain a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning and tacked on two more in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 advantage.
The Wolverines started their comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dickinson doubled to left field and scored on a single from fellow freshman
Luke Iverson to make it 5-3. UVU had two runners on after
Patrick Mills drew a walk, but the inning ended on a double play.
Drew Woody came in the top of the sixth and struck out the first hitter he faced, following a Utah Tech single and walk. He wrapped up the inning with back-to-back strikeouts, setting the stage for the Wolverines to tie in the home half. UVU got a two-out base hit from
Brandon Luna before
Garrett Broussard hit a two-run shot to left to knot the score up at 5-5. Utah Valley wasn't done yet.
Weston Peninger reached on a fielding error before advancing on a wild pitch. UVU loaded the bases in the inning after a walk to Dickinson, and Iverson reached on a third strike wild pitch. Mills knocked home two with a double to right center to make it 7-5, Utah Valley.
Woody (3-0) went 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and one run. Utah Tech scored the run in the seventh inning on a groundout by Tyson Fisher. Clinging to a 7-6 lead entering the eighth inning,
Reece Rodabaugh entered and went the next 1.2 innings of two-hit ball, adding two strikeouts on the night.
To cap his night, Dickinson hit a leadoff homer in the eighth inning for his fourth of the season and gave Utah Valley an 8-6 lead.
Josh Brown pitched the ninth inning to earn his third save of the season.
UVU will travel to the Lone Star state this weekend and meet up with first place Sam Houston. The series starts on Friday, Apr. 21 at 6:35 p.m. MT from Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville. The Wolverines will host Washington State at UCCU Ballpark on Apr. 26 at 6:05 p.m. MT.
