Pair of school records fall including Oldroyd breaking own mark in javelin

SALT LAKE CITY and SAN DIEGO – Kelsi Oldroyd broke her own school record in the javelin and the women's 4x100 team also set a new Utah Valley University record as the track & field teams competed in a pair of meets on Friday and Saturday.

Oldroyd's best mark of 54.39 meters came at the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego, with a group of throwers competing in the event at UC San Diego. She originally set the record on the opening weekend of the outdoor season at Utah Tech, breaking a mark that had stood since 1999.

The 4x100 record came at the Utah Spring Classic in Salt Lake City with Krista Farley, Larissa Dabb, Emma Newbold, and Quincy Bonds finishing in 45.52 seconds, which was also second in the event on Saturday. The time edged the previous mark of 45.89 seconds from 2017. The men's 4x100 took first place on Saturday and recorded the No. 2 time in UVU's top ten with the quartet of Cody Hone, Ryan Tenn, Aaron Johnson, and Kade Thompson (40.43 seconds).

In the high jump, Kallie Given was just shy of her PR of 1.71 meters. She hit 1.70 on Saturday and was second at the meet while Seth Krauss, already the school record holder at 2.17 meters, finished first on Saturday after hitting 2.13 meters. Aiden Garnett set a PR and Jeffrey Duvinston matched his best as both jumped 2.08 meters. The mark ties them for fifth in the school's top 10. Noah Peterson eclipsed 4.80 in the pole vault which ties him for sixth at UVU while Grace Williams' 3.35 mark puts her in ninth.

Farley also won the long jump at the event and moved up from fifth in the school's top 10 to fourth after hitting 5.86 meters. Neal Berkey matched his PR of 6.93 meters, which was second in the event and is ninth in UVU's record book. Olivia Pixton hit the seventh-best mark in the triple jump at UVU, with a PR of 11.02 meters.

Newbold was second in the meet and notched the No. 7 time in UVU's top 10 in the 100-meter race, finishing in 11.92 seconds while her husband, Aaron Johnson, took first in the men's 100 with a time of 10.66 seconds. Newbold was also second in the 200 on Saturday (25.28) with Dabb right behind her in third (25.28).

Dabb also had a good showing in the 400, finishing it in 55.19 seconds for second place at the meet and fourth all-time at Utah Valley. She previously held the No. 8 spot, which is now held by Ella Hopper after she ran the 400 in 56.43 seconds to finish third in the race. On the men's side, Cameron Franklin took first in the 400 in 47.55 seconds, just off his personal best of 47.44, the No. 3 mark in the school's top 10.

Quincy Bonds was third (14.11) in the 100-meter hurdles and just shy of her PR mark of 14.06 seconds, which is No. 3 at UVU. Paige Young ran it in 14.14 seconds, moving her from ninth to seventh in the record book. Kali McEuen moved up to No. 6 from No. 7 at UVU after finishing the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.33.

Both men's and women's 4x400 teams took first place in their respective races. Hooper, McEuen, Young, and Dabb were first on the women's side with a time of 3:48.43 while Franklin, Ryan Tenn, Jacob Deming, and Dabb won gold on the men's side in 3:18.12.

Also in San Diego, Alyssa Logan hit 51.21 meters in the hammer, which puts her at No. 8 while Austin Kleinman takes over the No. 7 spot in the men's top 10 after hitting 49.72 meters on the men's side. Nick Forsyth hit 59.22 meters in the javelin, which puts him at No. 9 in program history.

In the shot put, Joshua Clark, who is already No. 2 at UVU with a PR of 16.33, hit 15.95 and finished fourth in the event. Clark also moved from third into a tie for second in the top 10 in the discus (49.66) while Kleinman (46.04) is now No. 7 in the record book.
