OREM, Utah – Utah Valley women's volleyball is back at home for a pair of matches to close out non-conference play, beginning with (RV) Utah State on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6:00 p.m. MT, before hosting No. 12 BYU on Friday, Sept. 15 at 6:00 p.m. MT.
Tickets are still available for both matches, and both matches will air on ESPN+ with live stats on UVUstats.com.
The Wolverines are coming off a loss on the road to in-state foe Weber State on Sept. 12. UVU was led by sophomore outside hitter
Avery Shewell, who had 11 kills in the match and has a team-high 119 kills on the year.
Hailey Cuff had nine kills, and
Tori Ellis added seven in the loss.
Last weekend, Utah Valley won the Bengal Invitational hosted by Idaho State after victories over the Bengals and Gonzaga. Shewell was named the tournament's MVP, with setter
Abbie Medeiros and middle blocker
Vittoria Price being named to the All-Tournament Team.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
Utah State is currently 6-3 on the season and went 1-2 last weekend in College Station, where they lost to Texas A&M and TCU. They are led by Shelby Capllonch and Adna Mehmedovic, who have 81 and 80 kills, respectively. The Aggies have a balanced offensive attack with five or more players averaging over 2.00 kills/set.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
BYU is 8-1 on the year and is led by setter Whitney Bower. She has 274 assists on the year and currently leads the Cougars in hitting percentage (.361), aces (14), and assists. Outside hitter, Erin Livingston, has 124 kills and is coming off a season-high 21 against No. 11 Washington State.
THE WOLVERINES NEAR THE TOP OF THE WAC
Utah Valley's
Caleigh Vagana is leading the WAC in blocks per set. She has 32 blocks on the year and enters these two matches at 1.39 blocks/set.
Kendra Nock is the current career active leader in the conference in blocks/set with a 1.26. She is currently tied with UVU alum Lacee Koelliker with 251 total blocks and needs one block to be in sole possession of 13
th all-time.
WELCOME BACK ALUMS
Utah Valley will welcome back Alumni for this weekend's match against No. 8 BYU. They will host an Alumni and Children skills clinic on Saturday, Sept. 16, beginning at 9:00 a.m. MT.
