OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University had 13 first-place finishes and 11 new marks in the school's Top 10 record book at the UVU Collegiate Invitational on Friday at Hal Wing Track & Field. The Wolverines also saw three new top 10 personal records set at the Stanford Invitational, with a group of distance runners also competing on Friday and Saturday at the Mike Fanelli Classic, hosted by San Francisco State.
In Orem, the Wolverines 4x100 men's team set a new school record with the quartet of
Caleb Furnell,
Cameron Franklin,
Kade Thompson, and
Gabriel Remy finishing in 40.38 seconds to take first place. Furnell also took first in the 200-meter finals, running in 21.33 seconds while Thompson and Franklin joined
Isaiah Archer and
Dallin Anderson to win the 4x400 relay in 3:18.49.
Franklin took first in the 400, winning with a time of 47.50 seconds, just .06 seconds off of his personal record, which is No. 3 all-time at UVU. Thompson also recorded a gold finish in the 100-meter final, finishing in 10.63 seconds while Remy was second.
Quincy Bonds recorded a pair of first-place finishes, winning both the 100 and 100-meter hurdles. Bonds' time of 13.93 seconds in the 100mH was just .06 seconds shy of her No. 2 mark while her win in the 100-meter final (11.91) is good enough for No. 7 all-time.
Kali McEuen also moved into ninth in the 100mH with her finish in 14.20 seconds.
Ella Hopper won the 400-meter hurdles with a new personal best of 1:00.63, good enough for No. 4 in the school's Top 10, with
Becky Lowder (1:02.89) crossing the finish line in second place.
Sarah Ballard won the 200-meter final in 24.55 seconds and
Paige Young took first in the long jump with her best mark of 5.66 meters (18-6.75), while also taking third in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the throws,
Austin Kleinman won the hammer (59.15m, 164-7.5) and moved from third to second in the top 10 with his PR.
Andrew Smith had two personal records on Friday. In the shot put, Smith hit 16.15 meters (53-0.5) for fourth in the UVU Top 10 and second in Friday's meet. He also improved on his No. 7 mark in the hammer, with his best throw of 50.18m (164-7.5). In the javelin,
Kelsi Oldroyd won on the women's side with her best throw of 49.12 meters (161-1.75) while
Jared Nation set a PR for the second week in a row, improving on the No. 10 mark with an effort of 58.53 meters (192-0.25).
Nick Forsyth finished second in Friday's javelin with a throw of 63.49 meters, not far off of his school record of 64.02 meters.
Utah Valley also saw a pair of top 10 marks in both the women's triple jump and pole vault.
Olivia Pixton took first place and moved into a tie in the record book with her triple jump park of 11.78m (38-7.75) while
Sydney Dennis took seconds and moved into No. 7 in the top 10 (11.46, 37-7.25). In the pole vault,
Grace Williams set a new personal best for the second straight meet to open the outdoor season, winning the event after eclipsing 3.75 meters (12-3.75), good enough to move her into a tie for third.
Addie Mitton also entered into a tie for 10th in the record book in the pole vault with her mark of 3.35 meters (11-0.0). Also of note, WAC Indoor Heptathlon champion and outdoor redshirt
Neal Berkey won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.83 seconds while competing unattached.
At the Stanford Invitational, both
Morgan Nokes and
Ari Trimble notched personal records in the women's 10,000-meters. Racing in the top section of the women's 10k, Nokes finished in 33:08.53 for No. 3 and Trimble's time of 34:23.79 landed her at No. 6 in the Utah Valley Top 10.
Joel Mendez took fourth in the men's steeplechase, just barely over two seconds off of his school record time. He finished Friday's race in 8:39.55, with his school record standing at 8:37.40, which was set at last year's NCAA West Regional in Sacramento.
Oakley Olson finished sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:36.02) and was just .02 seconds shy of her personal record, which is fourth all-time at UVU.
Emily Morden landed in the No. 9 spot in the top 10 in the steeplechase with a time of 10:57.42.
After finishing up at the Mike Fanelli Classic on Saturday, the Wolverines will compete at Weber State (Friday, April 5) and Utah (Saturday, April 6).
