OPENING TIP
Utah Valley hosts Abilene Christian in the regular season finale on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT. It will be Senior Day in the UCCU Center, with Jenna Dick, Liana Kaitu'u, and Elina Tausinga to be honored postgame.Â
The Wolverines (10-18, 5-14) kept their WAC Tournament hopes alive with a win on Thursday over Tarleton State. The final two spots in next week's tournament are still up for grabs entering the final day of the regular season. UVU must win and also have UT Rio Grande Valley win at Southern Utah to have a chance to get in. That would create a three-way tie between UVU, UTRGV and the loser of the Seattle U/Tarleton contest. An SUU win would eliminate the Wolverines from contention.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley had its best shooting night of the WAC season and Tahlia White scored a career-high 25 points in a 73-66 win over Tarleton State on Thursday night in the UCCU Center. The Wolverines shot 49% overall and were a scorching 10-for-15 from the 3-point line.Â
White made half of team's 3-pointers, going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc to go along with four steals and two blocks. She buried a huge three with just over two minutes left to give the Wolverines a 68-61 lead, and then iced the game with just seconds to go with a pair from the line. Kylee Mabry and Ally Criddle both added 11 points for Utah Valley while Eleyana Tafisi finished with nine points and a career-high 10 assists. Criddle finished with seven assists against zero turnovers as the Wolverines had with 23 assists on 24 made field goals.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Wolverines lead the WAC and ranks 10th in the country in bench points per game (27.8ppg). UVU also leads the league and ranks 12th in the nation with 11.3 steals per game as a team while also leading the conference in turnovers forced per game (19.96, 28th nationally).
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Abilene Christian (13-15, 9-10) has secured its spot in next week's conference tournament and will likely be the No. 6 seed, based on Friday's resume seeding standings. The Wildcats fell at Seattle U on Thursday night, 59-54. Payton Hull's 15.1 points per game leads four double-figure scorers while Bella Earle averages 12.1 points and a WAC-leading 8.1 rebounds. UVU is winless in four prior meetings against the Wildcats. Saturday marks just the second time the teams will meet in Orem. ACU defeated the Wolverines in February in Texas, 66-53. Earle had 16 to lead Abilene Christian while Tessa Chaney had 17 points and 10 boards for the UVU.Â
