UVU returns home to host Seattle U in Tuesday doubleheader

Utah Valley (12-17, 6-3 WAC) kicks off a six-game homestand with a midweek doubleheader, hosting the Seattle U Redhawks (14-19, 6-3 WAC) on Tuesday afternoon at Wolverine Softball Field.

First pitch has been moved up to 1 p.m. MT to account for potential inclement weather. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT

The Wolverines took two out of three on the road at Abilene Christian over the weekend. After falling 10-2 in the opener, Utah Valley bounced back to take the next two games, 5-4 and 5-2 respectively.

With Saturday's win, UVU matched the best start to WAC play since joining the league in 2014. UVU also started 6-3 in 2018. The team went on to finish 10-4 in WAC play and finished 2nd behind NM State.

Megan Gibbs led the Wolverine hitters with a 5-for-8 weekend. Gibbs hit her 8th home run of the season in Friday's 5-4 win, and is currently tied for second in the WAC in that category. Gibbs also leads the team in slugging percentage at .736.

Halle Morris had arguably her best weekend as a pitcher in her collegiate career, tossing two complete games and earning the win in both. Morris twice tied her single-game career high with six strikeouts, and also continued to be a dominating presence at the plate. Morris has reached base in 12-straight games, and leads the team in on-base percentage at .489.

Angelique Mann showed off her power at the plate, hitting two home runs and hitting her team-leading 10th double of the season. Mann also made a pair of nice defensive plays, a diving catch in shallow center and a sprinting catch up the gap in right center.

Ry Binne returned to the lineup for the first time since March 9 after sustaining a knee injury. Binne immediately made her presence felt, picking up a pair of hits, a stolen base, and a jaw-dropping snow-cone catch late in the game on Saturday.

In Friday's series opener, the Wolverines turned just the second triple play in program history, escaping a bases loaded and no out situation by only allowing one run. UVU is one of five teams nationally to turn a triple play this season.

SERIES HISTORY vs SEATTLE U

The Redhawks have won four straight and nine of the last 11 in the series against the Wolverines. Seattle U swept a three-game series from UVU last season in the Emerald City. The Redhawks lead the all-time series 33-18.

UP NEXT

Utah Valley has another big series at home this weekend, hosting the California Baptist Lancers on Friday and Saturday. Friday's doubleheader is currently scheduled to start at 4 p.m. MT, with Saturday's series finale slated for 12 p.m. MT.
