OREM, Utah— Utah Valley baseball won the opening game of their weekend series against Seattle University, 9-3, on Friday afternoon at UCCU Ballpark.
Garrett Broussard finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and
Matthew Schwarz added three of his own RBIs for the UVU (24-22, 13-8) offense.
Braden Boisvert pitched seven innings
, limiting Seattle (13-32, 6-16) to just two runs.

Braden Boisvert have another stellar outing in our uniform. He did a great job of setting the tone for the day, and we scored enough runs to make it a solid day," said UVU head coach
Eddie Smith.
Chase Hennessey battled through some earlier adversity, allowing two base runners to reach, but shut down the Redhawks with back-to-back strikeouts. He finished the day with one inning and three strikeouts.
Seattle U did break through in the second against
Braden Boisvert to take a 1-0 lead and then added a run in the third to go up 2-0. The Wolverines cut the Redhawk lead in half with a solo home run by
Isaac Lovings for his tenth shot of the season.
Boisvert settled in and quickly calmed the Seattle U bats and would do so for the next five innings. Utah Valley took advantage of three of their next walks in the fourth inning to load the bases and tied the game on a single from
Calyn Halvorson. Later in the inning, the Wolverines took their first lead of the contest on a two-run single by Broussard to make it 4-2 in favor of UVU. They added a final run to go up 5-2 on a sac fly from Schwarz.
The Wolverines tacked on with a run in the sixth inning after Broussard walked and Lovings was hit by a pitch. Schwarz had a great sacrifice bunt that moved both runners into scoring position before Dickinson made it 6-2 in favor of UVU with a groundout.
Boisvert ended his outing in the eighth inning with three strikeouts, totaling 7.0 innings on seven hits, two runs, and eight strikeouts. Homers aided the UVU offense in the eighth inning when Broussard took the first pitch over the UVU left field wall to make it 7-2. After Lovings added a walk, Schwarz homered to left to put the Wolverines in front 9-2.
The Redhawks scored a run in the ninth, but
Reece Rodabaugh wrapped up the ballgame, pitching the game's final inning.
Burke Camper finished the game with three of the UVU's nine walks in the contest.
Utah Valley and Seattle U will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12:05 p.m. MT. The second game will be 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
