Beckerman to be inducted into Utah Sports Hall of Fame

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Valley men's soccer head coach and Real Salt Lake legend Kyle Beckerman will be inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame.

Beckerman will be honored at the annual Utah Sports Hall of Fame Foundation banquet on Sept. 9 at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City. Beckerman will be the second RSL player inducted into the USHOF, joining longtime teammate Nick Rimando, who was inducted in 2021.

Beckerman retired in December 2020 after a monumentally successful 21-year professional and international career. He spent 14 of those seasons in Utah with RSL, where he was a captain and led the team to a 2009 MLS Cup. He also had 58 caps as a member of the U.S. National Team, including starting appearances in the 2014 World Cup. In 2020, he was named one of Major League Soccer's 25 Greatest Players of all-time.

At the time of his retirement, Beckerman was Major League Soccer's all-time leader in games played (498), games started (461) and minutes played (41,164) among outfield players. He was a nine-time MLS All-Star and a four-time club MVP.

Just four months after finishing his playing career, Beckerman was named the second head coach in UVU men's soccer history. In the three seasons since his hiring, Beckerman has produced 14 All-WAC selections, 31 Academic All-WAC honorees, and two WAC Freshmen of the Year.

Beckerman's first season also saw the program's first MLS SuperDraft pick in Jojea Kwizera, who was selected by CF Montreal with the 15th pick in the first round. Kwizera now plays for Rhode Island FC in the USL Championship and recently earned his first caps with the Rwandan National Team.

A native of Crofton, Maryland, Beckerman and his wife, Kate, reside in Salt Lake City and are the parents of three children.

Joining Beckerman in the 2024 Hall of Fame class are Lindsey Anderson, Kevin P. Gates, Robert Craig Poole and Rod Tueller. For more information on the event and how to purchase tickets, head to utahsportshalloffame.org.
