Box Score DAVIS, Calif. — Isaac Emojong and Keith Willey each scored their second goals in as many games to lead Utah Valley to a 2-2 road draw against the UC Davis Aggies on Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field.
Emojong, a Davis native, and Willey, a native of nearby Newcastle, Calif., each scored for the second straight game after both scored on Thursday against Sacramento State.
With his goal, Emojong became the first freshman in program history to score in the first two games of the season. Him and Willey are also the third and fourth Wolverines overall to score in each of the first two games, and the first since Zach Maas in 2018. Freshman midfielder Naime Odeh also picked up his second assist of the young season, assisting on both of Willey's goals thus far.
Utah Valley fell behind early for the second straight game, conceding in the 2nd minute after a broken play left two Aggies unmarked at the back post.
Emojong equalized in the 34th minute with a counterattack goal against the run of play. The goal came after UC Davis had been dominating possession and kept the Wolverines pinned back in their own half for the better part of 15 minutes.
Omar Yehya broke towards the Aggie backline on the counter before leaving the ball for Emojong, who fired home a left-footed strike from a tough angle on the left flank.
A foul in the defensive third set UC Davis up for its second goal of the day in the 41st minute. Rafael Matiello buried the set piece with a pinpoint shot into the top-right corner of the net from about 30 yards out.
Utah Valley kept more of the sustained pressure in the second half, holding an 11-7 shot advantage and 7-3 corner kick advantage, but it took the Wolverines until the 81st minute to find an equalizer.
Directly off a throw in, Odeh took the ball toward the endline where he chipped a cross that went uncontested through the penalty area. The ball found its way to Willey near the top of the box, who fired the shot into a wide-open left side of the net.
Willey's equalizer set up a nervy final 10 minutes, as both sides had chances to put away a winner. Ben Williams was forced into his sixth and final save of the afternoon in the 82nd minute, but that would be the final shot tallied by either side. Utah Valley had three corner kicks in the final 7 minutes, but couldn't register a shot off of any of them.
The Wolverines return home for the home opener on Thursday against a third Big West foe in UC San Diego, the first of nine home games on the docket this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT, and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and WAC International.
