Utah Valley, Utah Tech Clash in Battle of Blocking Leaders

10/2/2025 10:25:00 AM

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley women's volleyball heads to St. George this weekend for the installment of the Old Hammer Rivalry. Utah Tech won both of the meetings last season, including in Burns Arena last season in five. The match is scheduled for a Noon start on Saturday, Oct. 4, and will air on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley started WAC play 2-0 for the first time since 2022, when they swept both Abilene Christian and Tarleton State. Playing both matches away from their home court, UVU used 19 total blocks against ACU, led by Bella Wooden, who was named WAC Player of the Week after recording 11 of the 19. The Wolverines had Avery Page and Sami Blackett both record double-digit kill performances on Saturday night in Provo to defeat the Texans.

ABOUT UTAH TECH
The Trailblazers enter the contest 10-3 overall and are 1-0 in conference play. Utah Tech is led by WAC Preseason Player of the Year and four-time WAC Player of the Week in 2025, Kennedi Knudsen. She has become one of the most feared outsides in the WAC. They are balanced defensively, led by middle blockers, Taylor Snow and Casidy Fried to make a solid 1-2 punch in the middle.

 BATTLE OF THE BLOCKS
These two teams are two of the top blocking teams in the country, with Utah Valley slightly ahead of its in-state rival. The Wolverines are first in the country in total blocks (178) and average 3.30 blocks per set to rank third in the category. While Utah Tech is No. 14 in blocks per set, coming in at 2.81, and has tallied 132, which is good for 23rd in the country. The winner of the match could be decided by who has a better block.

UP NEXT
Utah Valley will host UT Arlington on Thursday, Oct. 9, inside the Smith Fieldhouse at BYU in Provo. They will then travel for a matchup with California Baptist, and Southern Utah.
