OREM, Utah – Utah Valley swept their second consecutive series on Monday with an 11-1 victory over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
DJ Massey finished 3-for-4 in the game for this third four-hit contest of the season. Utah Valley (13-8) won their ninth consecutive contest to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule.
The Wolverines jumped out quickly with back-to-back walks to
Jayden Smith and
Dominic Longo II. They pulled off a double steal to put two runners in scoring position before
Landon Frei reached base for the 20
th consecutive game with a double to put the Wolverines up 2-0. Utah Valley loaded the bases later in the inning after
Nate Bach and
Joseph Barnhardt were hit by pitches.
Joe McBride then punched a two-run single to center field to make it 4-0.
Following
Aaron Rice's second 1-2-3 inning. The Wolverines added to their lead, starting with a single from Massey. He later moved to third base after a throwing error skipped away from the shortstop into left field. The run came across on a sacrifice fly from Smith, who now has 17 RBIs this season.
The Eagles recorded their only hit against Rice in the bottom of the third inning, but the runner was stranded when Gavin Speck tried to go first-to-third on
Nate Bach, who threw a dart to get the runner at third base. Rice finished with three innings on the day while adding a pair of strikeouts.
Leading 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Utah Valley broke the game open after
Joe McBride walked and Massey singled to put two runners on base for Smith, who singled to make it 6-0 Wolverines. The duo later stole bases to move to second and third and moved up another 90 feet on a wild pitch, with Massey scoring.
Utah Valley's bullpen pitched great, with four arms tossing an inning each that started with
Jacob Beltran not allowing a hit in the fourth,
Carter Krosky recording a strikeout on three hitters faced, and
Garrett Miller surrendering two hits in the sixth, but no runs.
Luke Kimmel pitched the seventh and recorded two strikeouts for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines came up in the seventh and scored four runs on four hits, starting with a double by Bach, who later scored on a single by Barnhardt to make it 8-1. Massey got the mercy rule in reach after he singled to left field before
Luke Iverson hit his team-high sixth homer of the year to end the ballgame.
In the nine-game winning streak, The Wolverines have outscored their opponents 107-43 and have scored ten or more runs in six of the nine contests.

The Wolverines will travel to Seattle U for a three-game conference series starting on Friday, Mar. 21. The road trip will wrap up on Monday, Mar. 24 with a non-conference matchup with Portland in the Rose City.
