Barraclough becomes Utah Valley's Sixth All-American

3/21/2025 11:03:00 PM

PHILADELPHIA – Utah Valley redshirt senior Terrell Barraclough became UVU's sixth All-American on Friday night in Philadelphia. After falling to Nebraska's No. 12 Christopher Minto in the quarterfinals, he bounced back to earn All-American honors with a victory over No. 25 Nick Hamilton (Virginia).

"I'm so excited for Terrell, our school, and our program. He went through an emotional roller coaster today. After losing a heartbreaking match this morning in the quarterfinals, he turned around tonight and won a tough match to become our sixth All-American ever. He followed that up with a gritty win over Oklahoma State to push into the top-6. He has a chance tomorrow to become our program's highest finisher ever. Go Wolverines!" said UVU head coach Adam Hall

During the morning session, Barraclough and Minto wrestled to a scoreless first period before the second period swung back and forth, starting with Barraclough taking a 1-0 lead after an escape from his bottom position. Minto answered right back less than a minute later, going up 3-1 with a takedown before once again the match swung to the 29-2 and No. 4 seed from Utah Valley with four points to end the period, all coming in the final 1:15.

Clinging to a 5-3 lead going to the third period, it was Minto who looked for the final swing first, coming up with a reversal with 27 seconds left on the clock and tying the bout up at 5-5, but with Barraclough holding the edge with riding time, Minto still had work to do. After the lead was extended to 7-5 with an escape, it came down to take the last-second shot that Minto connected for an 8-7 win.

In the evening session, with All-American honors on the line in the blood round, Barraclough again wrestled to a scoreless first period against No. 25 Hamilton. He took the 1-0 lead with an escape seven seconds into the second period. In the third period, he took full control, taking a 4-0 lead with a takedown, and made it a 5-0 decision after the riding time point.

For the third time this season, he faced off with Oklahoma State's No. 8 Cameron Amine, and after two battles that were decided by two points, Barraclough got out to a quick 7-0 lead in the opening frame. After a scoreless second period, the third period picked up quickly, with two escapes from the newly minted All-American being the difference in a 9-7 decision over his OSU All-American counterpart, who scored seven of his own points in the third period.

Barraclough returns to the mat tomorrow (March 22) in the consolation semifinals, where he will face West Virginia's No. 2 Peyton Hall. It will be a rematch of an electric showdown in Layton, where the hometown kid (Barraclough) topped Hall with a last-second takedown.

The action starts at 9:00 a.m. MT on ESPNU with individual mat coverage on ESPN+.
