ST. GEORGE, Utah — Quincy Bonds' record-setting indoor season has continued right into the outdoor campaign as the Utah Valley University sprinter opened the outdoor season with a school record and first-place finish in the 200-meter race at the Utah Tech Invitational on Friday.

Bonds finished the 200 in 23.09 seconds to break Alena Gillespie's record, set in 2017. The Wolverines also had 11 other personal records that earned Top 10 marks in the record book, and had first-place finishes in 10 events, with five of those cracking the top 10.

The throwers had six personal records that affected the record book, with Trevor Hill winning the shot put with the No. 2 mark at Utah Valley with his best throw of 17.13 meters. Eddie Sonny Garcia and Payton Vernon also had personal bests in the shot put. Garcia's mark of 15.40 meters puts him ninth, while Vernon (15.17) takes over the No. 10 spot. Luis Diaz Bojorquez also improved on his No. 10 PR in the discus, with his best throw hitting 46.19 meters. For the women, Karsten Deakin moved to sixth in the shot put (13.51m) and Grace Degarimore is No. 7 with her discus mark of 45.75 meters.

Ella Hopper continued her momentum from the indoor season in the 400-meter hurdles, earning the gold in the event with a time of 59.02 seconds for No. 2 all-time. In the men's 200-meter race, Cameron Franklin and Kade Thompson both had personal records that were in the top 10. Franklin won the event on Friday in 20.98 seconds, tying him for fourth in the record book, while Thompson's time of 21.17 seconds puts him at No. 6.

In distance, Anna Martin won the 5,000 with the seventh-best time in the top 10 (16.36.40) and Oakley Olson, who is the school record holder, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, an event she advanced to the NCAA Prelims in a season ago. Abdulsalam Farah also cracked the top 10 with his personal best in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Farah won the race in 9:05.14.

Other Utah Valley competitors who took first place on Friday were Kelsi Oldroyd (long jump), Aiden Garnett (high jump), Brayden Walker (400h). Both Oldroyd and Garnett hold the program records in both events.

The meet concludes on Saturday with the women's javelin — featuring two-time WAC Champion and NCAA qualifier Oldroyd — starting at 10 a.m. along with the women's triple jump. The 4x100 relays start the day on the track at 11 a.m.
