ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley's Halle Nelson was named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, winning the final honor of the regular season, the league announced on Sunday.
 
Nelson scored a career-high 22 points in UVU's win in the regular-season finale on Saturday over Tarleton State and averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game during the week. She was 14-for-17 (82.4%) from the field overall and hit two of her three attempts from three.
 
Against Abilene Christian, Nelson was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field with 14 points and eight rebounds. She's reached double figures in scoring in five of the last six games and set a new career-high twice during the span. Nelson has flourished as a starter, averaging 10.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per while starting the past 11 games for the Wolverines.
 
Nelson and the Wolverines will be the No. 5 seed and face No. 4 Abilene Christian in their opener of the WAC Tournament next Thursday at noon PT/1 p.m. MT.
