ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley dropped both ends of a Saturday doubleheader at Clay Gould Ballpark to UT Arlington. The Mavericks (16-27) swung hot bats all day, scoring in seven consecutive innings combined in the two games. UVU (27-20, 12-8) was led by
Jimmy De Anda, who finished both games going 5-for-8, and
Luke Iverson hit a home run in each game for the Wolverines.
GAME 1
The Wolverines jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a leadoff homer from Iverson for his 13
th of the season. The UVU junior has hit two leadoff home runs in the last couple of weeks, with his other coming against BYU on Apr. 21.
The Wolverines looked to add to their 1-0 lead in the second after
Dominic Longo II lined a double to deep left center but was later stranded on second.
They added to their lead in the third inning when
DJ Massey singled to left field and moved into scoring position on a passed ball.
Jayden Smith knocked in a run with an infield chopper that beat the throw to first base to make it 2-0. UVU looked to add on when
Mason Strong singled to left field, but the ball was juggled in left field and allowed runners to move up before Longo II singled home both runners to make it 4-0.
UTA broke through, scoring 13 unanswered runs before Bach launched his 24
th career home run into left field in the eighth inning. Longo II, Bach, and
Jimmy De Anda recorded two hit games for UVU.
GAME 2
The Wolverines took a 4-3 lead in the second inning after a single from De Anda that scored one run, and a second run scored as the throw skipped past two infielders to allow Strong to hustle home.
CJ Colyer put them in front with a home run to left center estimated at 451 feet.
Iverson launched his second homer of the day, this time to the opposite field, before UVU added a second run in the fifth inning. After Strong's double put a pair of runners in scoring position, Longo II recorded a sacrifice fly to bring home a run to cut the UTA's lead to 11-6.
Utah Valley tallied a pair of runs in the eighth inning with a two-out rally started by a pinch-hit single from
Brody Block that moved De Anda to third following a fielding error on the Mavericks. Iverson brought home the first run with a single for his second RBI of the contest before a pitch hit
Landon Frei to cap the scoring for the Wolverines.

Utah Valley and UT Arlington will wrap up the series on Sunday, May 4, with an 11:00 a.m. MT start from Clay Gould Ballpark. The game will air on ESPN+ with live stats on UVUstats.com.
