ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley redshirt junior wingback Noah Pogue was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week for the matchweek ending August 25, the league announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Pogue, a native of Draper, Utah, earns the first WAC weekly honor of his career after helping lead the Wolverines to a pair of dominant 4-0 shutout wins this past week over CSU Bakersfield and Gonzaga.

Pogue scored the first goal of the UCCU Stadium era in last Thursday's win over CSUB in the 27th minute, the second of his collegiate career. He also provided the primary assist on Lewis Knecht's 70th-minute strike in Sunday's win over Gonzaga, putting Utah Valley up 2-0 and giving the Wolverines a pivotal cushion down the home stretch. 

Pogue also contributed to a pair of dominant defensive efforts this week, holding the Roadrunners and Bulldogs to a combined three shots on goal across the two games. The Wolverines also held a 15-5 and 19-8 advantage in total shots against CSUB and Gonzaga respectively, and limited the Bulldogs to just 30% possession on Sunday.

Pogue and the Wolverines cap off the season-opening three-game homestand this Thursday against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. MDT, and tickets can be purchased at GoUVU.com/MSOCtix. Tickets to the men's game will also be honored for the women's soccer game against California immediately after.
