Wolverine legend Kjar to be inducted into Utah Wrestling Hall of Fame

9/25/2025 2:56:00 PM

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University wrestling's first All-American Ben Kjar is set to be inducted into the Utah Wrestling Hall of Fame at this year's Brunson Hall of Fame Banquet on Monday, September 29. The event will be held in the UVU Ballroom at 6 p.m. Also to be inducted is Coach Wade Discher, who has built a dynasty at Wasatch High School during his nearly 30-year career.

Kjar became the program's first NCAA All-American in 2011, when he advanced to the national semifinals and finished fourth in the country at 125 lb. The program's career wins leader, with 129 victories during his time at UVU, Kjar also saw success in his post-collegiate career on the mat. In 2023, after not touching a mat for two years, he trained and won both the freestyle and Greco U.S. Open in the master's B division.

Later in 2023, Kjar won a World Championship in the 62kg Greco-Roman competition at the Veterans World Championships in Greece. He also brought home a silver medal in freestyle. Kjar and his wife, LaCol, are the parents of three children, including twins.

The event and awards night will also recognize Utah's youth wrestlers for their accomplishments, while raising money for Utah Valley University's wrestling program.

Tickets for the dinner and auction are $50 per person or $400 for a table (10 seats/table). Ticket prices will increase to $60 per person and $500 for a table on September 22nd. Tickets can be purchased by following clicking HERE. There will be no on-site tickets sold to this event.
