HOUSTON—Paxton Maxwell fired a 4-under-par 68 to lead the Utah Valley men's golf team in Tuesday's final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club, finishing tied for seventh at 5-under 211 (71–72–68).
Utah Valley posted a 3-over 291 in the finale to tie for eighth in the 14-team field at 19-over 883 (295–297–291). Host Rice won the team title at 25-under 839 (277–283–279).
Maxwell's closing 68 featured an eagle on the 537-yard, par-5 first hole along with four birdies and 11 pars. It's his second straight top-10 after placing fourth at last week's Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs.
Colby Hutchens carded a 2-under 70 to tie for 36th at 6-over 222 (73–79–70), while Andrew Hawk matched him in 36th at 222 after a 1-over 73 (77–72–73). Isaiah Ellis finished tied for 68th at 231 (74–75–82) and JJ Tomsick placed 77th at 236 (78–78–80).
Utah Valley continues its fall slate at the Oregon State Invitational, Oct. 14–15, at Illahe Hills Country Club in Salem, Oregon.
