OREM—Utah Valley University women's soccer standout Lulie MacFarlane has been invited to join the Chilean Women's National Team for a series of international friendlies in Los Angeles later this month.
MacFarlane, a 5-foot-4 junior forward/midfielder from Vancouver, British Columbia, has Chilean heritage through her mother and is eligible to represent La Roja internationally. She will train and compete with Chile as part of its January camp in Southern California, highlighted by friendlies in Santa Barbara at UC Santa Barbara's Harder Stadium.
"We are really excited for Lu, having an opportunity to join Chile for international friendlies in Los Angeles will give her great experience at the international level," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "Training in that environment will continue to help her grow as a player and she will bring that back to our program."
MacFarlane recently completed her first season at Utah Valley in 2025, appearing in 19 matches and contributing two goals and two assists for six points while helping the Wolverines to their fourth straight Western Athletic Conference regular season title and an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Utah Valley dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at No. 12 Colorado in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Her 2025 campaign included goals against Gonzaga and Abilene Christian and assists against California Baptist and Tarleton State.
Prior to joining Utah Valley, MacFarlane played the 2024 season at UTSA, appearing in 16 matches with two starts and scoring one goal. She began her collegiate career at Memphis in 2023, contributing to a season in which the Tigers won both the American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, reached a national-best ranking of No. 3, and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. She has made 38 collegiate appearances across her three seasons with three goals, two assists, and eight points.
A former national-level youth player, MacFarlane competed in the Vancouver Whitecaps Girls Elite REX program, represented Team British Columbia at the 2022 Canada Summer Games, and participated in Republic of Ireland U17 and U19 national camps. She prepped at Burnaby Central Secondary, where she holds the school record for fastest goals scored in a match after netting four times in 19 minutes.
MacFarlane enters her senior season at Utah Valley in 2026.
