Utah Valley Heads to Palm Desert for Mountain Classic Match Play

The Utah Valley University women's golf team continues its spring season this week at the Mountain Classic Match Play, Feb. 9–11, at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California. The three-day event is hosted by Wyoming and Boise State and features an eight-team field competing in a bracket-style match play format.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The tournament will be contested over three days in match play format. Opening-round matches will be played Monday, followed by second-round matches Tuesday and final matches Wednesday. Each day will consist of 18 holes, with team placements determined through the bracket structure.

TOURNAMENT FIELD
The field includes Boise State, Gonzaga, Montana State, Nevada, Wyoming, Utah Valley, Washington State, and Weber State.

COURSE INFORMATION
The Classic Club will serve as the host venue. The par-72 layout in the Coachella Valley desert presents a balanced test with challenging par fives, strategic par fours, and demanding par threes that reward precision and disciplined course management throughout match play competition.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley competed at the Soboba Spring Classic in San Jacinto, California, where Chloe Jang led the Wolverines with a tie for 21st place in the 58-player field at 20-over-par 236 (80-78-78). Jang closed with a 5-over-par 77 in the final round, recording 13 pars.

As a team, Utah Valley shot 77-over-par 941 (331-310-300) to finish tied for sixth in the 10-team field. Pati Uluave also carded a final-round 77 to tie for 27th at 21-over-par 237 (82-78-77). Alyssa Butterfus matched that 237 total after firing a 1-over-par 73 in Friday's final round.

Valentina Zuleta closed with a 5-over-par 77 to tie for 32nd at 24-over-par 240 (83-80-77), while Maria Ortiz delivered one of the team's best rounds of the day with a 1-over-par 73 to finish 40th at 26-over-par 242 (93-76-73).

LOOKING AHEAD
Following the Mountain Classic Match Play, Utah Valley will travel to Abilene, Texas, to compete at the West Texas Classic, March 2–3, at Abilene Country Club.
