Utah Valley wraps up its six-game homestand with a pair of marquee non-conference matchups, hosting the defending Mountain West champion Nevada Wolf Pack and the BYU Cougars at Wolverine Softball Field.
The Wolverines will face the Wolf Pack on Monday at 5 p.m. MT, then turn around and host the Cougars on Tuesday at 6. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available at GoUVU.com/stats.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley took two out of three from Utah Tech to open WAC play, winning the opener 5-2, falling in game two 8-6, then rallying for a 7-6 walk-off win in the finale. The Wolverines currently sit in a three-way tie for first with CBU and UTA at 2-1, who won series against Southern Utah and Abilene Christian respectively.Â
QUICK HITTERS
With its win over UTU on Saturday, UVU surpassed its win total from all of last season. In the D-I era, Utah Valley has never reached 20 wins before recording 10 losses.
So. Tatum Hall has carried the offensive load for the Wolverines over the last seven games, recording a hit in each and multiple hits in six of those games. On the homestand, Hall is 8-for-14 with 2 HRs, a 3B, a 2B, 8 RBIs, and 4 runs scored. Hall also leads the team with a .424 batting average.
Sr. Britney Moreno recorded her program-record 12th triple in game two against Utah Tech, surpassing Morgan Smith, who had 11 from 2013-16. Moreno ranks t-3rd in the nation in triples this season with five, and currently ranks t-13th among active D-I players for their career. With her next triple, Moreno will match the UVU single-season record of six, set by Chris Jimenez in 2005, and move into the top 10 all-time in WAC history for triples.
The Wolverines have played from ahead most of the season, scoring first in 19 games (17-2) and scoring in the first inning 15 times (13-2). UVU has scored four or more runs in all but five games so far this season, and hold a 19-4 record when reaching that threshold.Â
SCOUTING THE WOLF PACK
Led by former Utah Talon, UW All-American, and Olympic bronze medalist Victoria Hayward, Nevada is coming off its first regular season MWC title in 2025. The Wolf Pack have played a tough schedule and been competitive in just about every game, losing games against Top 25 foes ASU, Arizona, and UCLA by two or fewer runs, and picking up notable wins over Oregon, Cal, NC State, and Indiana. UNR's offense is led by one of the top power hitters in the country in Hannah Di Genova, who has 11 HRs and 38 RBIs.
SERIES HISTORY VS NEVADA
Nevada and Utah Valley meet for the 23rd time on Monday and the first since 2022. UNR leads the series 15-7, but UVU has won the last three. The last time these two teams met, UVU pulled off the largest comeback in program history, erasing a 9-3 deficit to win 14-13 in extra innings. Utah Valley matched that comeback record last season at the WAC Tournament when the Wolverines battled back from an 8-2 deficit to win 9-8 against Seattle U. This is just the third meeting all-time in Orem. The Wolf Pack swept a doubleheader in Orem back in 2007.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
BYU has played the 16th-toughest schedule in the country and come into Tuesday with a 9-20 overall record after beating No. 21 Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Saturday. This will be the first time since 2013 that the Wolverines will have a better overall record than the Cougars in a game played outside of opening weekend. Reigning All-American Ilove'a Brittingham has paced the Cougar offense with a team high seven home runs and 24 RBIs.
SERIES HISTORY VS BYU
The all-time series has gone overwhelmingly in favor of the Cougars, who hold a 49-7 advantage entering Tuesday. The two teams have split the last four meetings over the last two seasons, including the Wolverines' first win in Provo since 2015 a season ago. Utah Valley is aiming to make it three straight years with a win over BYU for the first time in program history. The two teams have played or been scheduled to play every year since UVU began its transition to D-I in 2004.Â
UP NEXT
Utah Valley will head to Riverside, Calif., for a three-game series against California Baptist on Friday and Saturday in a matchup that features the top two overall records in the league. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is slated for 5 p.m. MT, with Saturday's series finale scheduled for a 1 p.m. MT start. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available at GoUVU.com/stats.
