ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley earned four WAC outdoor track and field postseason awards, including a sweep of the Athlete of the Year awards by Sila Kiplagat and Morgan Nokes.
Kiplagat was named the men's Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year, while Nokes was named the women's co-Athlete of the Year along with UTA's Eliza Lemberga. Head coach Scott Houle was named the women's Coach of the Year.
Kiplagat is the second-straight Wolverine to win each of these awards, after Gabe Remy and Alex Hartshorn won Athlete and Freshman of the Year a season ago. Kiplagat also completed a sweep of this season's Freshman of the Year awards after earning the honors in both cross country and indoor, and is the second Utah Valley athlete to earn that distinction, joining former All-American Hannah Branch who did it in 2017. Kiplagat was the WAC champion in both the 1500-meter and 5,000-meter, and will represent the Wolverines in the prior at Regionals this week.
Nokes earned her second WAC Athlete of the Year honor of the athletic year after winning the award during cross country. Nokes won two WAC titles in dominating fashion at the outdoor championships, securing the 5k and 10k crowns, bringing her total to six this season between cross country, indoor, and outdoor. Nokes enters this week's NCAA Regionals as the top-ranked Wolverine in their respective events, ranking 10th in the West in the 10k and 16th in the 5k.
For Houle, it is his 44th Coach of the Year honor and second of this athletic year after winning the award with the men's team during indoor. Houle led the Wolverine women to their third-straight WAC title earlier this month with 211 points.
Utah Valley will begin competition at the NCAA Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark., on Wednesday with the men's athletes in action.
