Joldy Watts is entering his fourth season of coaching on Eric Madsen's staff in 2021. He will enter his third year as the team's assistant coach after previously spending a season as the program's volunteer assistant for the 2018 campaign.Â
During his time in Orem, Watts has been instrumental in helping coach a trio of all-conference performers as well as 21 academic all-conference honorees. He also helped Utah Valley earn the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for the second time in the past three years.
Watts also helped UVU garner its highest MLB draftee in program history in 2019, when Paxton Schultz was selected in the 14th round of the 2019 draft by the Brewers. He was also instrumental in helping the Wolverines return to WAC Tournament play in 2019, as well as helping guide the team to a deep run in that year's conference tournament that included a win over the eventual 2019 champion Sacramento State Hornets.Â
He currently coordinates all camps and clinics for the program, as well as helps with recruiting and works with the pitching staff as he currently serves as the program's pitching coach. Watts also coaches first base on game days (wears jersey number 4). Â
Â
Before coming to Utah Valley in 2017, Watts was the head baseball coach of the Idaho Falls American Legion team from 2007-17, leading them to four state championships and six district titles.
Â
He was also head coach at Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls during that time. Watts coached Bonneville to a perfect 26-0 record and a state championship in 2013. His club also won six district and region championships during his tenure.
Â
Watts played collegiately at the College of Eastern Utah, now USU Eastern, from 2001-02 when Madsen was that program's head coach. He was drafted in 2001 by the Texas Rangers, signed in 2002, and played in their organization from 2002-06.Â
Â
A native of St. Anthony, Idaho, Watts attended South Fremont High School and also lettered in basketball. He has four daughters: Jaycee, Sicilee, Aynslee, and Lainee.
