Ryan Pickens joined the Utah Valley University athletic department as Assistant Sports Information Director in June 2022. He oversees the media relations for volleyball, wrestling, and baseball.
He first joined UVU athletics in March 2014, serving on the broadcast team for baseball. Occasionally, he can be heard calling UVU softball and filling in on basketball broadcasts. During graduate school, Pickens began working directly with the sports information team in August 2019.
He can also be heard calling games on Spanish Fork Community Network (SFCN) as a broadcaster for high school sports and has called over 400 games in the past eight years, including over 20 state championship games.
He spent the 2010 football season as a sideline reporter for Weber State Football home game broadcasts.
Pickens began his media career working in radio in Eugene, Oregon, where he hosted a sports talk show on 91.9 KRVM. He later completed internships with 95.3 The Score and KUGN 590 during high school.
Pickens graduated with a degree in Aviation Management from Utah Valley University in December 2018 and received a master’s of science in Sport Administration from the University of Northern Colorado in April 2020.
A native of Eugene, Ore., Pickens is a member of College Sports Communicators and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
