PORTLAND, Oregon - Jed Jensen pitched seven strong innings, scattering six hits, and striking out six in a 7-4 win over University of Portland on Tuesday. The Wolverines continue to swing the bats well smashing eleven hits in the victory.
As they have in three of the last four games, the Wolverines struck first in the second inning when
Canyon Vance walked and was driven in with a RBI single by
Sam Van Dyken.
UVSC would extend its lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
Adam Hutchinson walked and was bunted over to second by
Kevin Hashimoto. Pepe Jones then pushed a bunt past the pitcher on the first base side for a base hit moving Hutchinson to third. With runners on the corners
Trent Perry cleared the bases with a double to left centerfield.
The Pilots scored the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning with two walks and three singles, including a 2 RBI single by lead off hitter, Gustaf Little.
Perry gave the Wolverines back the lead with another RBI double in the fifth scoring Jones who got on with a walk.
UVSC added two more runs in the eighth inning on a RBI double by
Reno Mendenhall and a RBI single by
Jeremy Harris.
Jeff Broadhead gave the Wolverines their final run when he drove in Hashimoto in the ninth. Hashimoto who led the inning off with a single up the middle, advanced to third on a throwing error by relief pitcher, Given Kutz.
With the win Jensen improves to 1-2 on the season. UP starter Jared Adams got the loss and falls to 0-4. Adams went just four innings giving up four runs on five hits.
UVSC (4-9) takes a mini two-game winning streak into Wednesday's series finale against UP. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm (MST).
