SPANISH FORK, Utah - In game one,
Jed Jensen threw a complete game two-hitter, only giving up one unearned run in a 2-1 win over Weber State. In game two, Jensen hit for the cycle, with a grand slam and 6 RBI in a 15-5 win over the Wildcats to complete the sweep.
The cycle was the first ever in UVSC's short history as a NCAA Division I program.
Reno Mendenhall also had a good day going 2-for-3 in the first game accounting for both of UVSC's runs when he drove in
Jeff Broadhead and
Jeremy Harris in the third inning with a double off the left field wall.
Pepe Jones was the only other Wolverine with more than on hit in the first game. He went 2-for-2.
In the night cap, the Wolverine bats got going early as they scored seven runs in the first two innings, including a six run second. Mendenhall went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs. Both of Mendenhall's hits were doubles.
But Jensen stole the show, with a RBI double in the second, a RBI triple in the third, a grand slam in the fourth, and a legged out infield single in the fifth. Jensen hit for the cycle the easy way, getting the extra base hits out of the way in his first three at bats before hitting a high chopper to the Wildcat first baseman and beating WSU pitcher, Chris Jackson to the bag.
Daniel Bulow and
Dylan Priest also had two hit days going 2-for-3 and 2-for-4, respectively. Priest also had 2 RBI.
Adam Hutchinson and
Canyon Vance both went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI's each. Hutchinson hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third, his first of the season.
Brady Drake earned the win pitching five scoreless innings before giving way to relievers,
Eliot Dalton and
Adam Sorenson to close out the game. Drake only gave up one hit in his five innings of work.
With the sweep the Wolverines improve to 13-13 and get to .500 for the first time this season. After a 2-9 start, UVSC has won 11 of its last 15 games, and have a current five game winning streak.
UVSC will be at home on Tuesday to play the University of Utah at 2:00 pm. This will be the first of six games that the Wolverines and Utes will play this season. Tuesday's game will be played at BYU's Larry Miller Field. Due to the construction of Parkway Crossing Stadium, all UVSC's home game will be played at BYU.
