Priest, Broadhead Give Wolverines Victory

April 3, 2004

PROVO, Utah - Dylan Priest's RBI double in the seventh inning gave Utah Valley State a one run lead, and his RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Wolverines a 4-3 walk-off victory over Northern Colorado at Brigham Young University.

Jeff Broadhead's two-run homerun in the fourth inning gave UVSC a 2-1 lead, and his lead off single in the ninth turned out to be the winning run. Broadhead went 3-for-4 on the day, and Priest went 2-for-4.

UNC got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brad Baker.

UVSC came right back in the home half of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead on Broadhead's opposite field round tripper.

The Bears tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Craig Troxell. UVSC then regained the lead 3-2 on Priest's double off the left field wall that scored Broadhead who got on with a two-out single.

UNC tied the game in the eighth inning. With runners on first and second and one out Troxell hit a ground ball to UVSC first baseman, Trent Perry. Perry went to second for the force, but Priest's throw back to first was low and got past pitcher Jason Ward who was covering. Trevor Allen, who was the runner on second, scored on the throwing error.

The Wolverines got runners on first and second with no outs, but couldn't and score the runners. In the bottom of the ninth UVSC executed perfectly to complete the win. Broadhead led the inning off with a single to left field. Pepe Jones bunted him over to second, and Priest drove Broadhead in with a single up the middle.

Ward went eight innings, giving up six hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out five. He came out of the game with the score tied at 3-3. Aaron Tash pitched a scoreless ninth, and earned the victory when the Wolverines scored in the bottom of the ninth inning. Tash improves his record to 4-3, and the Wolverines improve to 9-13, while UNC falls to 20-12.

UVSC is on the road again on Tuesday as they play a doubleheader against Albertson College in Caldwell, Idaho. The Wolverines split a doubleheader with the Coyotes earlier this week in Provo.
