CALDWELL, Idaho - Utah Valley State scored runs in 11 of the 16 innings played Tuesday, as the Wolverines swept a doubleheader, 9-5 and 11-4, from Albertson College at Simplot Stadium.
Following a five minute delay at the outset due to rain, Utah Valley State (11-13) jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first game. RBI doubles by Reno Mendenhall in the first inning, Jeremy Harris in the second, and Kevin Hashimoto in the third, helped the Wolverine rally as UVSC scored in each of the first four innings.
Albertson did score runs in the fourth, seventh, and ninth innings but it wasn't enough as UVSC took the first game 9-5. UVSC starter Aaron Tash (5-3) went the distance against the Coyotes (18-21) to earn his fifth win of the season. Mendenhall and Jeff Broadhead each had three hits for UVSC.
Game 2 was the Trent Perry show, as the junior clubbed two homers and knocked in three runs in the victory. UVSC led 4-2 heading into the sixth, but three two-out errors by Albertson led to six Wolverine runs in the sixth inning and an 11-4 UVSC victory.
Brady Drake (2-2) picked up his second win of the season, giving up just seven hits and fanning nine in UVSC's second complete-game of the day.
The sweep made it three straight wins over Albertson for UVSC. Just one week ago, the Wolverines defeated the Coyotes 6-3 in the second of two games.
The Wolverines return to action April 17 against Weber State University . The doubleheader begins at 12 p.m. in Ogden .
