PASCO, Washington - For the second straight day the Utah Valley State baseball team hung with a good Gonzaga squad, but was doomed by one big inning as the Bulldogs beat the Wolverines 5-2 Saturday afternoon in Pasco, Washington.
Gonzaga used a four run second inning to build themselves a cushion and Patrick Donovan did the work on the hill for the Zags as he gave only five hits in eight innings of work.
"We aren't swinging the bats like I know we can,"Â said Coach Steve Gardner. But I think we'll get better as we go along."
Trent Perry had two hits for Utah Valley, while Brady Drake pitched seven excellent innings in relief allowing only three hits.
Kyle Tash (1-2) was saddled with the loss for Utah Valley, who drops to 4-5 on the season. The Wolverines will have a chance to get back to .500 tomorrow as they close out the series with Gonzaga at 2:00 p.m. MST.
