PULLMAN, Washington - The Utah Valley State baseball team rallied late, but failed to pick up a series split on Sunday when they lost 16-13 at Washington State. Dan Bulow hit another home run for the Wolverines, a three-run shot to straight away center field that nearly matched the long bomb he hit in Saturday's win. Trent Perry homered and doubled for Utah Valley, finishing the day 3-4 with three RBI.
The Cougars came out of the chute quickly, scoring eight runs in the first two innings and getting out to a 14-3 lead after only five innings. Jay Miller was 4-5 for Washington State and just missed hitting for the cycle, lacking only a double.
Utah Valley continued to battle at the plate, scoring 10 times in the final four innings and making things very interesting when they brought the tying run in the on-deck circle in the 9th.
Nick Connor had three hits on the day, and finished the weekend 7-19 with six RBI. Eli Slesk had three hits as well for the Wolverines while Todd Bateman went 2-4 with two RBI. The loss drops the Wolverines to 6-16 on the year as they prepare to take on BYU in Provo on Tuesday night at 7:00pm.
Utah Valley State opens its home schedule on Thursday at 6:00pm against Southern Utah. The game will be the first ever game played at Parkway Crossing Stadium. The grand opening of Parkway Crossing will take place at Friday night's 6:00pm game with fireworks following the contest.
