Utah Valley Topped by Portland

LEWISTON, Idaho - Utah Valley State lost its second consecutive game Friday at the Banana Belt Tournament, falling to Portland 8-2 in an error-filled contest. The Wolverines and Pilots each committed five errors, but Utah Valley's were more costly allowing four unearned runs to cross the plate.

The Wolverines struggled at the plate as well, picking up only five hits for the game, with Kory Drew picked up three of them including a double. Drew is having an excellent year so far, leading the team in hits with 22 and at the plate with a .400 average.

"We didn't make good contact or make good decisions at the plate," said Coach Steve Gardner. "You've got to do those things to beat the better teams and we just haven't done it yet."

Utah Valley will have a chance to even their record at the tournament as they will take on Gonzaga, Saturday at 5:00 p.m. MST. The game will be a rematch of last weekend's series in Pasco, Washington where the Bulldogs swept the three game series from the Wolverines.
