SACRAMENTO, California - Once again one big inning cost the Utah Valley State baseball team as a five-run second proved to be the difference in an 8-3 loss on Sunday afternoon against Sacramento State. The loss completed a four game sweep at the hands of the Hornets who have now won six in a row and nine of their last 10.
The Wolverines could only come up with five hits on the day as Hornet starter Travis Kane struck out eight batters in 7 1/3 innings.
Eli Slesk had two of the hits for Utah Valley State, while Dan Bulow knocked home his 13th home run of the season in the ninth inning.
With the exception of that fateful second frame, Wolverine starter Kam Mickolio pitched well allowing just three hits and three earned runs in six innings of work.
Utah Valley State drops to 11-29 on the year and have now lost five straight ball games. They will travel back from Sacramento this evening and prepare for another tough task tomorrow as they host BYU at 7:00pm. BYU has won the first three meetings between the two teams all-time. The game can be heard live on wolverinesports.net.
They will be in action again on Tuesday at Utah in a 2:00pm game at Ute Field, although there will be no broadcast for that game.
