#8 Arizona Lives up to Billing in Big Over Wolverines

TUCSON, Arizona - Arizona lived up to its #8 ranking on Friday as the Wildcats blew out Utah Valley State 16-0. Arizona starter John Meloan was dominant on the hill, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out 11 in eight innings of work.

National Player of the Year Candidate Trevor Crowe went 3-for-5 with two triples and a double while Jeff Van Houten and Nick Hundley both homered and drove in three runs for the Wildcats.

Each starter in Arizona's order had at least one hit and all but one batter drove in at least one run.

Trent Perry had two of the five hits for the Wolverines, who didn't get a runner past second base all evening. The loss drops Utah Valley State to 16-34 and stops a modest two-game winning streak.

The score was just 3-to-0 in the 5th when Perry and Eli Slesk led off the 5th with back-to-back singles. But any momentum the Wolverines had hoped to gain was lost when Perry was picked off 2nd with Cory Newton was trying to sacrifice the runners over. The Wildcats went on to put six runs on the board in the bottom of the 5th and ran away with the ballgame.

"One play can change the whole momentum of the game," said Utah Valley State assistant Nate Mathis. "And that play was an exact example of that."

Kam Mickolio is scheduled to start on the hill tomorrow as the Wolverines and Wildcats will go at it again at 8:00pm MST. The game can be heard live on wolverinesports.net/broadcast.
