TUCSON, Arizona - Arizona continued its domination of Utah Valley State by pummeling the Wolverines 12-1 in the second game of a three-game series on Saturday night. The #8 Wildcats buried the Wolverines with two runs in the first and second innings, four in the third and three in the fourth to lead 11-0 through four.
Player of the Year Candidate Trevor Crowe had three hits for the second day in a row and is now 6-for-9 in the series with three triples, four runs batted in and six runs scored.
Utah Valley's struggles compared to Arizona's success at the top of the order is evidence to why the Wildcats have outscored the Wolverines 26-1 in the first two games of the series. The Wolverines' top three of Kory Drew, Nick Connor and Canyon Vance are 0-for-24 in the series, while Crowe, Brad Boyer and Jeff Van Houten are 17-for-29 (.586) with 11 runs batted in and 13 runs scored for the Wildcats.
Kevin Guyette nearly matched the day that John Meloan had on the hill Friday for Arizona. Guyette threw eight innings allowing just five hits and striking out eight.
One of the lone bright spots was the day that Zach Coon had at the plate. Coon got just his second start of the year and went 2-for-4 with an RBI to pick up his first two hits and first RBI of the season. He was 0-for-10 on the year before the day.
Eli Slesk was 1-for-4 on the day to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. He leads the team with a .388 batting average.
The series finale is tomorrow at 1:00pm MST and can be heard live on wolverinesports.net/baseball.
