#8 Arizona Completes Sweep of Wolverines

TUCSON, Arizona - The Utah Valley State baseball team competed on Sunday but the result was still the same as #8 Arizona completed a three-game sweep with a 7-2 win. The Wildcats proved they are worthy of their ranking and their hopes of ending their season in Omaha like they did last year in the College World Series.

The Wildcats outscored Utah Valley 35-3 in the series as Arizona did it with both excellent pitching and hitting.

The Wolverines jumped out on top first in Sunday's ballgame and led for the first time in the series after Kory Drew walked to lead off the game and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Utah Valley knocked U of A starter David Coulon out after 2 1/3 innings of work and led 2-to-1 after the top of the third.

Arizona came back with two in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth to take a 5-to-2 lead.

The score stayed 5-2 until the bottom of the eighth when Nick Hundley picked up two insurance runs for the Wildcats when he hit his 12th home run of the year.

Brady Drake went the distance for the Wolverines but took the loss as the Arizona bats were just too tough in the long run.

The Wildcat bullpen also did the job for Arizona. Eric Berger and Mark Melancon combined to pitch 6 2/3 innings of three hit baseball and striking out six while allowing no runs.

Trent Perry had three hits on the day including the only RBI of the day for the Wolverines. Perry had the best series at the plate for Utah Valley State as he went 6-for-11 during the three game set.

Eli Slesk went 0-for-4 for the Wolverines, stopping his hitting streak at 13 games.

Utah Valley State will be back in action on Tuesday night in its final home game of the year as they host Utah. Jed Jensen will get the start on the hill in the final start of his successful career at home.
