Utah Slugs Its Way Past Wolverines

April 25, 2006 

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -The University of Utah (21-18) scored in each of its first four innings on the way to a 14-1 win over Utah Valley State (13-30) Tuesday afternoon in Salt Lake City.

The Utes scored two in the first on a two-run home run from Eric King and two more in the second on RBI hits by Ryan Khoury and Bret Baldwin.

The Wolverines got their only run of the game on a two-out RBI single from Nick Connor in the top of the third that scored Keiki Albino.

Utah answered that run with two in the bottom of the third and three more in the fourth with the big blow a two-run home run by Jay Brossman to take a 9-1 lead and put the game out of reach.

Kyle Tash (4-3), made his first start since April 1st due to an injury and suffered the loss while Brandon Ast (3-1) pitched seven innings and allowed just one unearned run on five hits in earning the win.

Next up for Utah Valley State is a three-game series in Orem with #1 (NAIA) Lewis & Clark State. The first two games are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 7pm with Saturday's finale at 1pm.
