Orem, Utah - After falling behind early, Utah Valley rallied with nine unanswered runs over the final six innings to beat Utah, 10-4.
Marcus Moore pitched eight strong innings for the Wolverines (15-23) to pick up his third victory in as many starts. The Utes dropped to 16-20 with the loss.
Each one of UV's batters picked up at least one hit while six different Wolverines drove in runs. Tyler Garretson went 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI while Derrick Thomas went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Josh Hinkley led the way with three RBI on a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
Utah jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Corey Shimada got the Utes inning going with a double down the left field line. After Jay Brossman walked, Dustin Hennis cleared the bases with a three-run homer.
Utah Valley got on the board in the second inning on a Jace Brinkerhoff solo home run to cut Utah's lead to 3-1.
After the Utes scored in the top of the third on another Hennis RBI hit, UV's bats came alive. The Wolverines scored nine unanswered runs to build a 10-4 lead. UV's first big inning came in the bottom of the third when the Wolverines scored three. Eli Slesk drove in a pair with a one-out double. Thomas drove Slesk in with a single to tie the game at four.
In the next inning, Utah Valley took the lead on a Scott Croshaw RBI double. Croshaw later came around to score when Garretson drove him in with a single.
The Wolverines extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh with a four-run frame. Thomas picked up his second RBI of the game to start the scoring. Hinckley delivered the big blow in the inning with a opposite-field, three-run home run to give UV a 10-4 lead.
Meanwhile, Moore settled into a groove. After giving up four runs in the first three innings, Moore held the Utes without any runs for the next five innings to pick up the victory.
Utah Valley will continue its home stand when it welcomes Dixie State to Wolverine field this weekend for a three-game series beginning Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m. (MDT)
