Orem, Utah - After Utah Valley took its series with Washington by winning the first two games, the Huskies took game three, 20-7.
UV falls to 19-25 with the loss while UW improved its record to 21-20. The game was close until the Huskies erupted for 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Scott Croshaw led the way for the Wolverines, going 3-for-5 from the plate. Derrick Thomas had another productive RBI day, knocking in three runs on two hits.
Washington jumped out to a 4-0 lead as the Huskies scored a pair in each of the first and second innings. Matt Hague hit a two-run shot in the top of the first and Danny Cox added a pair on a round-tripper in the second.
After struggling early at the plate, the Wolverines got their offense going in the third. UV put together three hits and scored a run on a Keiki Albino RBI senior. The Huskies got out of the jam as Utah Valley left the bases loaded in the inning.
In the top of the fifth, Washington added a run of its own to extend the lead to 5-1. The Wolverines followed with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a two-run game. Croshaw and Eli Slesk had back-to-back singles to start the inning. Thomas plated the two with a single to left field.
The Huskies had an answer in the top of the seventh as they extended their lead with a three-run frame that included another Hague homer.
UV came back with a pair in the bottom of the seventh off Washington ace Nick Hagadone to cut the Huskies lead to 8-5. Thomas had an RBI single and Croshaw scored from third on a wild pitch. The Wolverines left a pair on base in the inning.
Both teams scored in the eighth inning. Utah Valley left two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth. The Huskies broke the game open in the top of the ninth, scoring 11 runs on 11 hits to put the game out of reach.
The Wolverines wrap up their home stand with a Tuesday night game with cross-town foe, BYU. Game time is 7 p.m.
