ARLINGTON, Texas - The Utah Valley University wrestling team picked right back up where they left off in dual action Saturday at the Lone Star Duals in Arlington, Texas as they went 2-1 on the day to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Wolverines defeated two Ivy League schools, in Brown and Harvard, before falling the No. 22 Arizona State Sun Devils in the nightcap.

"The guys wrestled hard today," UVU head coach Greg Williams said. "They went after it and had good results. We lost a couple of matches by one-point against Arizona State that hurt us, but I felt that we kept our composure through the dual. Brad Darrington had an exceptional tournament going 3-0 and pinning a tough Eric Starks of Arizona State."

Junior 125-pounder Benjamin Kjar (ranked No. 15) had another solid performance for UVU as he went 2-1 at the duals and one of his victories was by fall. His lone loss came by the hands of the No. 3 ranked wrestler in the country, Anthony Robles of ASU.

UVU began the day by beating Brown University (2-4) by the score of 24-12. The Wolverines found themselves up 10-0 early in the matchup after Kjar defeated Greg Einfrank by fall (3:23) and junior Flint Ray (133-pounds) beat Cortlandt Choate by major decision, 11-1. The Bears then won two of the next three bouts to make things interesting before UVU junior Jeb Clark (165-pounds) and sophomore Brad Darrington (174-pounds) both won back-to-back matches by major decision.

Brown then attempted to stay alive in the matchup as Bran Crudden defeated junior Casen Eldredge at 184-pounds (4-0) and UVU freshman Josh Wood then fell in his 197-pound match to Larry Otsuka by a narrow 7-5 decision. In the final match of the dual UVU freshman-heavyweight Dylan Stadel defeated Tyler Cowman, 9-2, to complete the first victory of the day for the Wolverines.

In the early evening Utah Valley continued its strong day in Texas as it handed the Harvard Crimson (2-6-1) a 40-10 loss. The Wolverines started very strong against the Crimson as UVU won the first seven bouts. Kjar helped UVU off to the strong start as he defeated Steven Keith by decision, 12-8. Ray then won his bout by technical fall. Senior Jeffrey Newby who was back starting at 141-pounds followed by winning by forfeit, junior Justin Morrill (149-pounds) then won by fall (4:37), freshman Clay Frost (157-pounds) then won a 5-1 decision, Clark followed by pinning his Harvard's Kyle Roy (1:43), and Darrington finished off the winning streak by beating his Crimson opponent by technical fall (16-0).

Harvard finally got on the scoreboard as No. 7 Louis Caputo at 184-pounds defeated UVU's Eldredge 9-1. Wood then bounced back for UVU as he won his matchup by fall (1:51) over Sean Murphy. At heavyweight the Crimson won only their second bout of the dual as Spencer Desena pinned Stadel 6:13 into the match.

Top-25 Arizona State (7-4, 3-0 Pac-10) started hot against UVU as the Sun Devils won the first five matches of the dual. ASU's No. 3 ranked Robles started the rally as he defeated UVU's top-grappler, Kjar, by major decision, 10-2. At 133-pounds, Ray then wrestled very hard for the Wolverines but he ended up losing by only one-point, 6-5, to Ben Ashmore. The 16th ranked Chris Drouin then defeated UVU's Newby by major decision, 12-4. Morrill then dropped a tough 3-2 decision as did Frost as well as he fell by major decision, 15-4.

Clark then got UVU on the board and Darrington followed up with a victory by fall as both wrestlers went an impressive 3-0 at the Lone Star Duals for the Wolverines. Clark won his matchup by decision, 7-5, and Darrington pinned ASU's Eric Starks with only 12 seconds left in the bout.

Eldredge then found himself on the wrong end of a 6-1 decision as he lost to Jake Meredith. The final two bouts were won by forfeits as Wood scored UVU's final points of the dual as he won by forfeit.

Up next, Utah Valley will now begin its Western Wrestling Conference slate Jan. 28, as it will travel to the Air Force Academy.
